In 1954 CBS picked up the show and turned it into a hit sitcom that ran until 1960. This release includes the entire first season of episodes, which follow the distinctly middle-class lives of Jim, his wife Margaret (Jane Wyatt), and their kids, Betty Princess Anderson (Elinor Donahue), James Bud Anderson (Billy Gray), and Kathy Kitten Anderson (Laurin Chapin). Each episode finds the family members slotting into very traditional roles, but Young and the co-creator of the show, Eugene Rodney, would occasionally subvert events to show that, in fact, father doesn't always know best.
